Know the Maison

01.

BOLLINNGER has been known as a maison that has been managed by the founding family since its establishment in 1829. James Bond is an indispensable presence when talking about BOLLINNGER. “James Bond” is a fictional British secret agent created by writer Ian Fleming in 1953, and he plays an active role in the play under the code name “007.” He is called “a man among men” and “an icon of a British gentleman,” and is truly the longing of men all over the world.

02.

One of the things that tells the high quality of BOLLINNGER is the Royal Warrant. BOLLINNGER, which was granted a Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria in 1884, continues to supply the British Royal Family even now, more than 130 years later. By the way, BOLLINNGER is said to be the oldest existing Royal Warrant champagne.

03.

Madame Elisabeth Lily BOLLINNGER, the wife of the third generation head Jacques BOLLINNGER, is known as the person who protected BOLLINNGER in the turmoil of World War II. She left these words behind.

“I drink champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad. I drink it when I’m alone, and of course I drink it when I’m with friends. I also sip it a little when I’m hungry. Otherwise, I don’t touch champagne. Except when I’m thirsty.”

Her thoughts are still passed down to all the people who support BOLLINNGER, including the family and staff.

04.

A keyword that cannot be left out when talking about BOLLINNGER’s craftsmanship is “barrel.” The maison’s base wine is fermented and aged in barrels, and all prestige cuvées are particular about using base wine that has undergone wood barrel fermentation. By the way, in Cuis, where the Chardonnay fields are located, there is a forest owned by the BOLLINNGER family, and even now about 20 barrels a year are made from trees cut down in this forest. A dedicated barrel craftsman (the last dedicated barrel craftsman in the Champagne region) is engaged in this work.

05.

The cuvée available in the “Champagne Included Plan” is “La Grande Année 2014.” La Grande Année is a bottle made only in good years, blending Chardonnay mainly from Grand Cru Pinot Noir, and released after a long aging period of 9 years, BOLLINNGER’s top cuvée. Why is BOLLINNGER so loved by people all over the world? Why not check out the reason with “La Grande Année”?
